Trashusers Services

Head Quarters: Lagos

Trashusers Services is a waste recycling and social enterprise on a mission to promote zero waste and drive environmental sustainability. Incorporated in 2015 and having registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria, Trashusers is licensed to operate as a recycling company, with the approval of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). We are a member of the Recyclers Association of Nigeria (RAN), and the Lagos Recyclers’ Association (LAGRA). Since inception, we have had a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. Some of these initiatives include: Cleanups (beach and community cleanups), EcoKids Upcycling, Environmental Education and Recycling. Only 2% of oceans worldwide are cleaned annually, and if this is not corrected by 2050, there would be more plastics than fishes in our oceans. Also, most coastal communities have little or no access to information about their environment. This goes a long way to impact on how they relate with water bodies. The main relationship they know is commerce, so they only relate with them in that regard. Proper care, disposal of waste, and genuine interest in the water bodies are unfortunately missing in this relationship. Thus, the need for us to clean up and educate these communities on these matters arose in 2021 when we started the #LagosOceanCleanup, a one-year long initiative which comprised beach cleanups and coastal community sensitisation. In 2022, we decided to give it a name that covers other scope of what we do; we therefore started the #EkoGreenProject’22. It is a theme that has come to stay. Only the years will change as it rolls by. We have been able to recover 19 tons of PET bottles from the Ocean through our monthly Ocean Clean up exercise at different beach front communities in Lagos. The 19 tons compromise of 8 tons in 2021 and 11 tons in 2022. We have also been able to establish a Recycling Hub at Okunajah where we collect waste Plastics, Beverage alluminium can, nylon and papers. We recently started another Recycling Hub within, Yaba College of Technology, YABATECH, Yaba, Lagos. The plastics waste collected are sorted in a sustainable manner and baled before supplying our end-users Our goal is to rid Lagos, especially its water bodies of plastic waste; and also groom the young ones in our primary/secondary schools on the importance of waste recycling thereby instilling the habit in them by 2030. We have already started working towards achieving this. It is what birthed our Theme: Eko Green Project , which is now its second year running.
