As much as 105,000kgs of charcoal is consumed in urban Makurdi everyday with a total daily value of N10,500,000. According to our needs assessment with households and food businesses in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, charcoal and firewood causes several health problems to users. According to the World Health Organization, over 93,000 women and children die every year as a result of smoke inhalation while cooking with firewood. In addition, the use of charcoal and firewood causes deforestation which results to global warming and climate change. BettaCoal was deliberately developed to replace the use of charcoal and firewood in Nigeria. 1. BettaCoal is cheap: 1kg cost N150 and can burn for as long as 3-4 hours. 2. BettaCoal uses agricultural waste rather than trees, therefore availability of raw materials is guaranteed throughout the year. 3. BettaCoal is well shaped and packed in well design cartons enabling easy handling and transportation. 4. BettaCoal lights 5 minutes faster than charcoal. These features make it the most preferred choice of solid cooking fuel among charcoal and firewood. Currently we have about 100 potential customers. However we sell about 200-250kgs per day. This is because we are producing manually. If funded with you to 5million Naira, we can acquire machines that will produce up to 500-1000kgs per day, and be able to reach more customers and make more revenue.
