Nigeria is the largest producer of rice in Africa which is due to it favorable climate and soil. Most recently Nigeria rice production is threatened by climate change and primitive agronomic practice, with a flood in 2022 that cost over N700 billion losses. The UNFAO estimated that about 25 million Nigerians will face food insecurity in Nigeria by August 2023. Zunog is mitigating food insecurity in Nigeria by cost effectively producing more rice per hectare using water efficient paddy rice fields and climate smart production practices. This production technique is widely practice in developed countries but very rare in Nigeria. Rice plant requires a lot of water for it quality and maximum yield per hectare. Zunog water efficient paddy rice fields ensures that it rice plant access enough water on demand. This paddy field is created using locally available technology, tools, and machines. Which includes; A laser torch, mapping rod, mechanical parts, and excavators. Zunog also adopt production techniques such as minimum tillage that stores carbon in the soil, make the soil healthier, increase the number of beneficial soil organism, and makes the soil water retentive. Zunog process it rice products into parboiled rice and white rice leveraging on affordable technology and tools. VISION: To be a leader among peer organization in Nigeria producing more rice per hectare using advanced modern agricultural equipment and production practices. And to also serve as a hub that will empower Nigerian rice farmers with the necessary technology and knowledge to manage their rice fields. MISSION: The mission of Zunog is to develop, enhance, educate and deliver expertise that anticipate and respond to Nigerian food (rice) demand.
